Alarm in France: Detainee holds hostage prisoner in high-security prison

An injured prison guard is being held hostage by a prisoner in a high security prison France, as broadcast today, Tuesday (5/10) the French television station BFMTV.

According to the Ministry of Justice, two guards – a man and a woman – were initially taken hostage, but according to the television network, the female prison officer was released after a few hours. Her male colleague, however, is still being held has injured his right eye, the station broadcast.

According to the APE-MPE, the ministry said that negotiations are underway for the release of the hostage at the Conte-sur-Chartre prison, which is located about 250 kilometers west of Paris.

Security units have been mobilized and reinforcements have been sent to the prison, the ministry added.

According to BFMTV, the detainee who took the hostages, is serving a multi-year prison sentence for rape and attempted murder.

The television network broadcast that the detainee, who is armed with a knife, has made a number of requests, including reduction of his sentence. He added that he was not on the list of detainees with extremist Islamist connections.
