The alarm was sounded on Wednesday morning after fire which broke out in Londonand specifically close to London Bridge. About 70 firefighters are operating at the scene, while it became mandatory disruption of services of trains in the area and evacuation of some buildingsthe London Fire Service announced.
Images posted by the fire service on Twitter showed smoke pouring from the road under the railway bridge, which has some vehicles on it and was engulfed in flames. Southwark and London Bridge train stations were closed.
“There is a lot of smoke from the fire and those who live or work in the area are advised to keep their windows and doors closed,” Fire Station Commander Wayne Johnson said in a statement posted on the fire department’s website.
Trains on the London Underground’s Jubilee line have also been affected by the fire, while the London Fire Brigade has confirmed that smoke billowing from a platform at London Bridge tube station is from the fire on the railway bridge.
Rail Kent & Sussex said on Twitter that the fire had spread to a car park where “two electric cars have been engulfed in flames”.
