The Albanian government is going to buy five patrol boats from a Turkish company, using funds provided by the European Union.
According to Turkish media, the boats will be built by the Izmir-based Gözüyılmaz Mühendislik company, which won a tender from Albanian police. The project concerns the “Effective management of Europe’s green and blue borders”.
The company has produced boats for the Turkish police, Russia and Nigeria.
The project includes the construction of a 15-meter boat and a 10-meter fiberglass boat. They will be handed over to the Albanian Interior Ministry in Durres next spring.
The company said that it participated in the very competitive competition but managed to stand out among European companies.
“It was a source of pride for both the country and our company,” they said.
This will be the first naval fleet of Albanian police and is said to have cost about $ 3m.
Earlier this year, Albanian government buys military drones from Turkey worth more than $ 8 million. They also spent an unknown amount on an anti-drone system from another Turkish defense company.
