The deployment in Albania of the “Advanced Staff of the Special Operations Command” of the American Army in Europe, SOCEUR, was announced yesterday by its commander, David H. Tabor.
At the same time, the US Ambassador to Tirana, Yuri Kim, described the decision as a significant development in US-Albanian defense relations, stressing that the development of the military staff is a security for the region.
According to the US military official, the purpose of this decision is to enhance the effectiveness of the US presence in Albania. He added that the deployment of the SOCEUR base would help strengthen US co-operation with NATO allies in the region, the proximity of transport hubs in the Balkans and increase the accounting flexibility of specialist operations in the region.
The same senior US official described Albania as a “valuable partner for security in the region and the world”.
The announcement of this decision was welcomed by the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, describing the event as a “manifestation of very close cooperation” with the United States.
