The results of the last national census of Albania were announced yesterday and the data showed a decrease in the population with the number reaching 2,402,113 citizens which compared to 2011 is less by 419,831. “The population of permanent residents of the Republic of Albania on September 18, 2023 amounted to 2,402,113 people, or recorded a decrease of about 420,000 people compared to the 2011 census,” summarizes the report compiled by the Albanian statistical institute (INSTAT) . Demographic decline is “a continuous trend since the 1990s, mainly due to immigration,” according to INSTAT’s assessment.
