Alber Elbaz, the tribute to the legendary designer crowns the end of Paris Fashion Week

Love always calls to itself other love. The fashion industry is often imagined as a hostile world, in which competition prevails over everything, but there are designers who have shown how much love for their work, as well as for their team, prevails over any system logic. This is one of the great lessons given by Alber Elbaz, who passed away last April at the age of only 59 following complications from Covid-19, and which inspired the tribute dedicated to him: Love Brings Love. A special event at the end of Paris Fashion Week for Spring / Summer 2022, in which 45 of the biggest fashion houses and contemporary designers, created a unique show, paying homage to Alber Elbaz’s stylistic and human legacy.

The enormous esteem for the legendary designer has led this long parade of designers to put aside any rivalry or alleged such, rand interpreting the style codes in their own way, the motifs and archetypes brought to the catwalk by Alber Elbaz during his long career: after 14 years at the helm of Lanvin, the former artistic director left the maison in 2015 taking a break from the fashion scene, with the exception of projects specials like the Tod’s Happy Moments accessories collection. However, in 2021, Alber Elbaz returned to the industry with a new label, AZ Factory, with which he had in mind to prioritize inclusivity in sizes. A unique sensitivity and empathy, but also aincredible joie de vivre, which inspired the creations of the designers for the fashion show in homage to Elbaz. Among the participants, just to name a few, Jean Paul Gaultier, Rick Owens, Raf Simons and Virgil Abloh, as well as the great fashion houses: from Gucci, with Alessandro Michele, to Fendi with Kim Jones, passing through Dior by Maria Grazia Chiuri and others. alone.

The ferment and the great participation of the industry have meant that the event, at the Carreau Du Temple in Paris, in the heart of the Marais, started well an hour late: to open the show the model Adut Akech, with a spectacular black dress from the same AZ Factory, followed by a series of looks that have recalled the distinctive traits of the designer over the years at Lanvin. After the Elbaz label, the designers participating in the tribute made their appearance, from Dries Van Noten, who printed one of Elbaz’s self-portraits on a fiery red coat, to Anthony Vaccarello for Saint Laurent, who dressed Anja Rubik in the unofficial Elbaz uniform: black dress, white button and fuchsia bow tie. Viktor & Rolf instead reinterpreted a dress from the Haute Couture 2020 collection with heart-shaped motifs while Rei Kawakubo by Comme des Garçons, has taken up the element of the bow tie in the form of a bow for hair. In closing, before the final appearance with all the looks, Amber Valletta walked the runway embodying the same attitude as Alber Elbaz, greeting the public. A historic celebration, which was also attended by many celebrities and public figures, from the French First Lady Brigitte Macron and to Hollywood star Demi Moore, accompanied by her daughter Scout Willis.
