Albert of Monaco furious with the ex: “Incorrect and inappropriate”

Revenge is a dish that should be served cold, but it is not very royal. For this reason Albert of Monaco had not replied when in September, his ex-partner Nicole Coste, with whom the prince had Alexandre, now eighteen, had vented with the weekly Paris Match describing his son’s life as a fairytale worthy of the Brothers Grimm: with a distant father, a poisonous stepmother, and an eternal fate excluded from the line of succession. However that interview for Alberto had been a low blow, difficult to digest. Therefore, as soon as he had the opportunity, he did not let it slip away and replied. “His words shocked me,” he revealed to the magazine Point of view, not hiding a certain hatred towards the woman to whom he has been linked for seven years: “He warned me that an interview would come out, but I thought it was linked to Alexandre’s birthday who had turned 18, I did not expect this invasion of our privacy. Frankly, I did not expect this incorrectness».

In fact, he might even have expected it, as it wasn’t the first time Nicole Coste chatted with Paris Match revealing what instead should have remained closed within the walls of the Palace: shortly after Alexandre’s birth, in fact, the Togolese hostess gave the magazine some photos of Alberto breastfeeding her son, and told that he lived in the prince’s house in Paris, receiving a monthly allowance from him.

But what hurt Alberto, this time, was above all the words against Charléne – for months away from her family for a mysterious infection – accused of having always treated the boy badly, especially in the absence of his father. «Ever since she and Alberto were engaged, I have witnessed scenes that alarmed me», Nicole Coste said in the interview, «One above all: she moved my son out of the room, making him stay in the staff wing. A behavior that, as a mother, left me speechless ». But even for the prince, despite the formality, Coste did not have very tender words, describing him as a distant father in fact: “They get along well, they are friends,” he acknowledged. But also remembered that Alexandre has always lived outside Monaco (he grew up between London, Geneva and Paris: “As his father is a sovereign prince, some things are a little out of the ordinary”) and that, as for a role in the future of Principality, “it’s up to your father to decide.”

In short, words that clash with the image that Alberto has given of himself as a father, especially in recent months: the always affectionate thoughts towards his distant wife, the travels to reunite the family with his mother in South Africa, the continuous attention towards the twins Jacques and Gabriella from whom he never separates (he also took them with him to Glasgow, where the twins have become guests of honor of Cop26). “What Nicole said was definitely inappropriate. I don’t deny that finding out made me furious », the prince admitted.

Nicole Coste and Alberto di Monaco met on a Paris-Nice flight on which she worked as a stewardess in 1997 and were linked for seven years, although opposed by his father, Ranieri. But Alexandre is not the only child born out of wedlock for Albert of Monaco: in 1992, from a relationship with the Californian waitress Tamara Rotolo, Jazmin Grace was born, whom he recognized in 2006, after a DNA test.
