Alcione turns 77: remember songs that filled soap operas

Considered one of the main samba singers in the country, Alcyone is turning 77 years old this Wednesday (21). Born in São Luís, Maranhão, her baptismal name was inspired by the protagonist of the spiritualist novel Renúncia, psychographed by Chico Xavier.

Also known as “Marrom”, “Dama do Samba” and “A Voz do Samba”, the artist’s discography includes 30 studio albums, another nine live albums and seven compilations.

Within Brazilian television drama, the samba singer was also responsible for featuring several songs on the soundtracks of TV Globo soap operas. Check it out below.

Still at the beginning of his career, Alcione had the song “Paper Plans” in the plot of “O Rebu” (1974), written by Bráulio Pedroso.

Five years later, in 1979, it was the turn of “You Can Wait” appear in “Pai Herói”, by Janete Clair, and “Yummy Poison” in “The Giants”.

In the 1980s, successes such as “Boy without Sense” , “Gale of Life” and “Strange Madness” appear as characters in “Chega Mais”, “Louco Amor” and “Sassaricando” respectively.

In 1990, “Best Moments” was in “Araponga” and in 1999, the samba singer performed with Djavan on the song “Yummy Poison” for the plot of “Suave Veneno”.

Still in Marrom’s voice, “I Know I Will Love You” was in “Kiss of the Vampire”, in 2002.
