Alcoa’s ERE is declared invalid and the Government and the Xunta now hope that there will be a sale of the plant

The Social Room of the Superior Court of Justice of Galicia has decreed nulo the ERE that Alcoa wanted to apply at the San Cibrao plant (Lugo), by appreciating “bad faith” in this business measure, and the central and autonomous governments hope, with that resolution in hand, that its sale is now possible.

Both the Government Delegation in Galicia and the Xunta have expressly expressed their wish that the multinational aluminum company agrees to continue the sales negotiation process of the San Cibrao plant and the plaintiff unions -CIG, UGT and CCOO- have shown their satisfaction after judicially ratifying the nullity of the Employment Regulation File (ERE).

Upon hearing this ruling, which condemns the company to keep the 524 employees affected by the collective dismissal, the Minister of Industry, Reyes Maroto, who is in quarantine, has published a tweet in which he has assured that “justice is done “with an entire region, that of A Marià ± a, where” today they can be calmer. ”

He Government delegate in Galicia, Javier Losada, has trusted that this judicial decision means “another step” towards maintaining employment. and industrial activity, and has expected Alcoa to agree to continue to the frustrated date of the transaction.

He Vice President of Economics and Minister of Economy, Business and Innovation, Francisco Conde, has wished Alcoa “to return to the path of dialogue” to negotiate the sale of the plant and has stated that this is “good news” for families who have struggled for months.

For his part, the chairman of the Alcoa San Cibrao works council, Josà © Antonio Zan, applauded that “justice was done” and celebrated the ruling at the gates of the only primary aluminum factory that remains in Spain. He has done it by uncorking bottles of champagne with his companions.

The Secretary General of CCOO de Galicia, Ramón Sarmiento, has described today as “a great day for the Galician working class” and has summoned the Public Administrations to “make viable an industrial alternative that guarantees employment in the region of A Marià ± a “.

From UGT-Fica-Galicia they have valued the sentence “very positively”, and have indicated that the multinational “has no choice but to reflect and sit down again to negotiate” the sale.

Meanwhile, the other demanding union, CIG, is clearer in demanding an iPublic intervention of the plant to avoid “decommissioning” of it and also, like the others, highlights the “enormous capacity for struggle and resistance” of the workers.

At the opposite extreme, sources from the multinational Alcoa have insisted on remarking that they have acted “in good faith” and “in full compliance with the law” and, in statements to Efe, they have stressed that they are reviewing the ruling of the Galician high court to determine “the next steps” to follow.

Politically speaking, the leader of the BNG, Ana Pontón, and the deputy of United We Can, Antón Gómez Reino, have been in favor of a public “intervention” of the company.

Meanwhile, the general secretary of the PSdeG, Gonzalo Caballero, has urged Alcoa to “allow” the sale. “We have to maintain all the pressure on Alcoa to rectify now,” said the Socialist leader.
