A tragic incident occurred during the shooting of the movie Rust, in which Alec Baldwin co-produced and starred, as broadcast by the BBC. The popular actress accidentally killed 42-year-old Halyna Hutchins, director of photography, when she fired the gun she was holding during the shooting.
The woman arrived at the hospital seriously injured and a few hours later succumbed to her injuries. The 48-year-old western director Joel Souza was also injured in the fire.
I’m so sad about losing Halyna. And so infuriated that this could happen on a set. She was a brilliant talent who was absolutely committed to art and to film. ❤️ pic.twitter.com/vcdFqHsGA0

Police are investigating what happened at the Bonanza Creek Ranch, a popular place where several films have been made, and so far no arrests or charges have been made. The local Santa Fe New Mexican newspaper reports that 68-year-old Alec Baldwin was out of the sheriff’s office and could not stop crying.
Hailing from Ukraine, Halyna Hutchins studied journalism in Kiev and directing in Los Angeles, and American Cinematographer named her a rising star in 2019. She was the director of photography in 2020 in the film Archenemy by director Adam Egypt Mortimer. “I am just saddened by the loss of Halyna. And so angry that something like this happened on set. “She was a great talent, dedicated to art and cinema,” he wrote on Twitter.
