Alec Baldwin: Prosecutors Consider Hutchins’s Death Prosecution

Criminal prosecution at the expense of the actor Alec Baldwin, where accidentally killed Halina Hutchins, during the shooting of the film Rust, examines the prosecutor who has undertaken the investigation into the circumstances of the death of the cinematographer.

«He fired the gunSanta Fe prosecutor Mary Carmack-Altwiss told a news conference. “All options are on the table at this stage” and “no one is excluded” from a possible prosecution, he added.

Carmack-Altwiss and Santa Fe County Sheriff Adam Mendoza gave a press conference six days after the tragic incident. So far no prosecution has been filed in this case.

The sheriff said the authorities have in their possession the weapon used in the shooting, a Long Colt revolver and they believe it contained a real bullet. Baldwin, he added, was cooperating in the investigation.

The accident shocked Hollywood, where, according to the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency, started a wide-ranging discussion about security protocols in film and television, such as whether certain types of weapons should be banned. At the same time, the controversy over working conditions in low-cost productions is intensifying.

Court documents state that Baldwin received a gun, which he believed was “dead” – that is, safe – from Assistant Director David Halls. He had taken it from the stroller used by Hannah Gutierrez, who had been hired to oversee the firearms and their safety. The gun, however, contained a real bullet, which hit Hutchins in the chest and director Joel Souza, who was standing behind her, in the shoulder. Hutchins was airlifted to New Mexico University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Souza received first aid at a hospital and was discharged after a few hours.
