Actor Alec Baldwin and the film’s producers rust managed to reach an agreement with the family of the director of photography Halyna Hutchins, who died in the middle of the recording set.
On October 21, 2021, Halyna Hutchins, 42, was fatally shot. Additionally, director Joel Souza, 48, was injured in the incident. The shot came from a gun that Baldwin himself was handling.
Matthew Hutchins, widower of the cinematographer, filed a lawsuit in February against Baldwin and those involved in the film, accusing them of recklessness and alleged cost-cutting on set design that led to the tragedy.
After several months of fighting, Matthew Hutchins and his family have reached an agreement with Baldwin and Rust Movie Productions.
We have reached a settlement, subject to court approval, in the wrongful death case against the producers of ‘Rust,’ including Alec Baldwin and Rust Movie Productions, LLC. As part of that settlement, our case will be dismissed. Filming on ‘Rust,’ which I will now executive produce, will resume with all original lead actors on board in January 2023. I have no interest in recriminations or blame.
We all believe that Halyna’s death was a terrible accident. I am grateful that producers and the entertainment industry have come together to pay tribute to Halyna’s latest work.

After the agreement, Matthew will become executive producer of the film Hutchins was working on, which will resume recording with all the main actors in January 2023. At the moment no further details of the resolution they reached have been revealed.
Baldwin shared on his social networks that he has reached an agreement with the Hutchins family and stressed that the decisions made have been with the well-being of the director of photography’s son in mind.

It is worth mentioning that Balwdin has maintained that he did not pull the trigger and would never point a gun at anyone. However, the investigation against him is still ongoing.
