Alec Baldwin: The phrase he repeated in shock when he fired his gun on set

“Why was I given a hot gun?” was the phrase allegedly repeated by Alec Baldwin shortly after the gun he was holding in his hands fired, killing the cinematographer of the film Rust and injuring its director, during yesterday’s shooting.

Halyna Hutchins, 42, died shortly after being accidentally shot by Alec Baldwin during the filming of a western film near Santa Fe, New Mexico. The 42-year-old director Joel Souza was also injured and spent several hours in hospital, but was discharged the same night.

There is little information the police have given about the case, which is covered by a mystery. The weapon he fired was a prop weapon (s. Fake weapons or replicas with bullet cartridges used in the films) and the investigation continues.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office said Hutchins and Souza were shot when a prop gun fired by 68-year-old Baldwin, who is the producer and actor in the film, involved an accidental murder. No one has been arrested in connection with the incident and no charges have been filed so far.

An eyewitness told the Hollywood website Showbiz 411 that Baldwin immediately began to wonder why he was given a hot gun, which means a gun full of real ammunition, according to the Daily Mail.

A spokesman for the film’s production said later that the accident was related to the “firing of a prop weapon full of ammunition”. According to the report, fatal accidents with unskilled fire are extremely rare, but they do happen.

Baldwin was questioned by the sheriff’s office after the accident but was not arrested and charged. Pictures outside the sheriff’s office show him devastated and in tears as he speaks on the phone. The actor refused to speak to a journalist who was at the scene.

It is not known where the actor is now.
