Hollywood and the movie industry are still trying to overcome the tragic accident and the murder of filmmaker Alina Hutchins on the set of the movie Rustfrom a weapon held by Alec Baldwin. 42-year-old director of photography Alina Hutchins lost her life when the famous actress shot her by mistake.
Hours after Baldwin shot and killed Hutchins during filming, he complained in a phone call that he no longer wanted to “be a public figure” and laughed with police, according to footage released Monday.
The video, recorded about three hours after the shooting in an interview room of the Santa Fe sheriff’s office, shows a sloppy Baldwin apparently calling on his staff to make the necessary moves before speaking to police.
The outburst on the phone
“I’m at the police station; they’re going to interview me. How is everyone at home? How are the kids;” Baldwin appears in the clip, which was released Monday by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office. When the person tries to offer a few words of support, Baldwin cuts it off. “What I am is someone who, I do not want to do this anymore, I do not want, I do not want to be a public figure,” Baldwin said.
“I am the one holding the gun in her hand and everyone is supposed to have taken care of it. “They always give me a cold weapon.”
The actor then calls someone else and says he wants to come to Santa Fe as the investigation progresses. “We will spend our time here; we will go and have fun,” says Baldwin.
The woman on the other end of the phone, an obvious babysitter answering questions about Baldwin’s children, asks if they should “stay away from vultures here” – a reference to the paparazzi.
The first words to the police
Minutes later, detectives enter the room to discuss the fatal accident that left Hutchins dead, the married mother of one child, and injured director Joel Souza. Before they can speak, one of the detectives reads Baldwin his rights.
“My only question, then, is whether I am being accused.” the actor asks before he starts laughing with the police. “No, we’re just interviewing; it ‘s just a formal process,” they replied.
“When I shot, away from the cameraman, I never aimed the camera at the gun, so I turned around and went like that,” says Alec Baldwin, as shown in the video, making a gun with his fingers. “And she was there (s.s. Alina Hutchins). And the gun fired. “And she (s.s. Alina Hutchins) fell to the ground”, says the actor in his first statement to the police.
