A CNN found that among the fugitives from the penitentiary system are: Saulo Cristiano Oliveira Dias, SL; and Paulo Sérgio Gomes da Silva, known as Bin Laden.

According to the State Secretariat for Administration (Seap), 1,785 prisoners benefited from the Periodic Home Visit (VLP) and were scheduled to return to Rio de Janeiro prisons by 10pm on December 30th. However, at least 255 inmates failed to comply with the rules and are now considered fugitives.
The Christmas “saidão”, as it is popularly called, is granted by the courts to prisoners who have good behavior, are first-time offenders and have served 1/6 of their sentence or are repeat offenders and have served 1/4 of their sentence.

Hotline calls for help from the public
