A “rare” human case of bird flu has been identified in England, the UK’s Health Safety Authority announced today. “Transmission of avian influenza virus from birds to humans is rare and has only occurred a few times in the UK,” the Health Safety Agency, UKHSA, said. The person, whose gender was not mentioned, became infected on a farm in central England, where he had “close and prolonged contact with a large number of infected birds”, the announcement underlines.
