In these hours many policies, and beyond, are discovering the presence of your photos on the site Phica.euwhere for twenty years anyone can access, load a shot that portrays a woman and kick off, or participate, in the debate on his attractiveness or on what one would like to do with the body. One of the first to publicly condemn what was happening, on social networks but also with a real criminal complaint, it was the MEP PD Alessandra Morettialso a victim of the forum, which overwhelmed by the complaints announced the closure. Reached by telephone, she told us how she is experiencing these hours and how, with the other party women, she decided to move.
I guess they are not simple days.
“No, at all.”
How did you find out she ended up on that site?
«I landed yesterday afternoon in Brussels and once there he warned me a colleague. I immediately went to see and found in the forum thousands of my photos, many modified or zoomed on specific parts of the body, related to unrepeatable comments that incited violence and rape ».
What did you feel at the sight of that repertoire?
“An initial shock, which then turned into a profound feeling of sadness because this story is the demonstration of an important cultural backwardness and a regression of women’s rights and respect for them”.
After the initial discomfort he decided to react by denouncing the site and urging all women to do it.
“Yes, I think it is essential to give a strong but also concrete signal, for this reason together with other party colleagues, who also ended up on this site, we are thinking of a choral action”.
What does it consist of?
«Roberta Mori, who is the lawyer of the Democratic Party and presides over the conference of democratic women, is preparing a collective criminal proceeding aimed at protecting all the policies involved. Not only, however, will we also turn to the Privacy Guarantor and we are trying to create a platform that does not help only those who, like us, would have the tools to defend themselves even individually, but also and above all the women who for various reasons fail or do not have the strength to do it. Doing network is essential, only in this way can things change ».
Despite the scope of the question there are still those who in these days, even after the very similar case of the Facebook group My wifespoke of male goliardia, minimizing the situation and not a little.
“Yes, what you borrow the most is the fact that even under the posts of the newspapers that have published my video report, certain men continue not only to diminish the incident by defining it precisely a simple goliarded, but also to believe that it is only a pretext to attack all men as a category or for us women a way to advertise us”.
Do you really think many men do not understand the dramatic of situations or rather try to dampen it for a sort of sense of comradesque protection in the category?
“Both. It is clear that not all men are like this but it is necessary to say that those who believe that taking the photo of a woman, posting it online without consent and then commenting on in a bitter way are more than those who believed themselves, and that, as the case of the Facebook group has taught us, it is often unsuspected. The patriarchal culture inclined for centuries in our society that tends to relegate us into a role very close to the object and the exchange goods is still very widespread and many men see in the free woman, emancipated and independent at an economic level a threat to their freedom. This, added to cultural degradation, which in my opinion is widespread also in young people, can trigger the worst reactions ».
To reverse the course for years you are talking about the need to introduce sex education and emotional education in schools, would it be really useful?
«Yes, a lot. We no longer live in society of 30 or 40 years ago, today the boys and girls through social media have access to any information and unfortunately if we do not teach them how to relate to the other and the sexual and sentimental sphere are educated by themselves in the only way that they can, that is, by contacting pornographic sites that enhance the violence, brutality and submission of the woman with respect to the male, considered as an object to be used and exploited, dignity ».
Would you need more to boys or girls?
“To both. At the first to learn how to approach the opposite sex in a respectful way, without regarding consent, to the latter to get to know themselves and learn to quickly identify the alarm bells and what is harassment or violence, in order to have the tools to defend themselves and feel free and not in danger due to one’s desire for independence. We know that today the role of the parent has also become very tiring due to all the inputs and the stimulations that come from the outside and for this reason I believe that the school is the best place to promote a different culture, even without taking all responsibility for teachers “.
How can you move then?
“It is necessary that the government understands that adequate resources are used to pay professionals who depending on the age of this subject to students in the most appropriate way, imprinting it in their mind as happens with the score of 2, writing and spelling and grammar”.
What starts from?
«From the concept of consent. The sharing of the files we are talking about in these days has made us very clear that the woman’s self -determination principle is not known to everyone. Many, even very young, do not know how far they can arrive, when stopping, that it is no and that going further, even virtually, represents a form of violence ».
However, it would probably serve a total taking charge by politics.
“Unfortunately it is so. In Europe we have tried several times to make a rule that on sexual violence expressed a concept shared among all 27 countries but we did not succeed because on the consent of the woman and on the principle of self -determination we are still divided, and I find that it is shocking ».
The impression is that even in Italy of these issues we always speak a little only among activists, journalists or policies already sensitized on the subject but that the real will to bring them to the public debate is missing.
“Unfortunately, when the problems concern or have women as victims, an attitude of widespread indifference often prevails, also deeply linked to the culture widespread in our country, even among those who have political and administrative responsibilities”.
Even when at the head of the government there is a woman, like today with Giorgia Meloni.
«It also happens because patriarchal culture is a legacy that we have been carrying within for centuries, difficult to eradicate, partly within each woman. For this reason it is necessary to inculcate different ideas to the very young, who are less conditioned by the rules of the past ».
Even the Democratic Party could perhaps have more courage in talking about these topics, which often gives up the individual representatives, as in his case, without giving too many choral answers.
“I disagree. I believe ours is a party very attentive to the question. For years we have been the conference of democratic women and the Schlein secretary herself has long been asking for the introduction of sexual and emotional education in schools as a mandatory and non -optional matter. However, I am also convinced that that of violence against women is a battle that we must carry on transversely, also involving the same premier, who has been doing politics for a long time and I cannot believe is not interested in a theme like this, even more so because he has a daughter, like me, and therefore knows how important it is to educate girls to be free, if they were doing what they want “.
