Alessandro Del Piero: “The Manualx is like football: for everyone, no one excluded”

Which national team would you always like to play in?
«I grew up cradling the dream of wearing every day the blue shirt, and I have never wished for anything else: when I crowned that dream I felt an emotion that cannot be described in words. Of course, when I was a child I was fascinated by the splendid orange jersey of Holland (but how splendid it was also how he played!) And then by that of France, in which my legend, Michel Platini, played. More than anything else, I’m sorry not to have challenged some of the national teams: I’ve never played against Argentina and England, only a friendly match against Brazil ».

A goal he would have liked to score.
«My favorite goals were those with ball and chain across the pitch and opponents who jumped like pins, and luckily I also scored some like that. There were beautiful goals (Van Basten in the Euro’88 final, Zidane in the Champions League final with Bayer Leverkusen, and many others …) which, however, belong to the sphere of great ballistic conclusions, of sudden and sensational shots. But the emotion of a goal like that of Maradona against England, of Messi of Getafe, or of Ronaldo and Ronaldinho has a unique charm for me ».

The play that Alex Del Piero did not know how to make.
«The scorpion a la Higuita, but that not even Gigi Buffon could do: indeed, if he had tried he would have broken his back! Seriously, I grew up with the idea that an attacker, when he is twenty or twenty-five meters from the goal, should look for the most useful and functional play to score or assist: the rabona, for example, was not for me. , and I preferred instead of crossing my legs to improve my left, which would have given me more chances of making a successful play. So, in training I spent hours improving my left foot and not even half a minute trying the rabona, which didn’t seem so useful to me, like the Vito Chimenti bicycle or Blanco’s Cuauhtemina. What then will be written like this? It is very difficult to write, let alone to do! ».
