Alex Pompa: “If I went back, I wouldn’t do it again”

“Are you sorry for what I have done?” Absolutely”. Alex Pompa, the nineteen year old who on 30 April 2020, in Collegno, in the province of Turin, killed his father, Giuseppe Pompa, 52, to defend his mother and brother from his violence, told his tragedy to «Porta a porta », on RaiUno. “I said from the start that if I could go back I would never, ever do it again. I’d rather die than my father “.

The boy had killed his violent parent with 34 stab wounds, with six different knives. And immediately afterwards he called the carabinieri confessing the crime he had committed. The prosecutor had asked for 14 years of imprisonment for him, but the Court of Assizes of Turin acquitted him because “the fact does not constitute a crime”.

“There wasn’t a time when I decided to kill my father. It was a moment I don’t remember, I don’t know what happened that night. But I immediately said that I was sorry, I know I didn’t do a good thing. And if I could go back, I would prefer to die, but we had reached such a level that the violence experienced that evening cannot be equated with the episodes of violence experienced before, “explained Alex Pompa.

«With him it has always been difficult, since I was little, and I experienced his violent gestures towards me, my brother and especially my mother. But I never stopped loving my father».

Giuseppe Pompa was very jealous of his wife (on the day of the murder, he had spied on her at work and was furious because a colleague had put a hand on her shoulder): “The problem is that my brother and I have to be children of my father at some point, when his obsession with my mom got worse, we became his obstacles because he could not possess it, oppress it, to subdue it as he would have liked ».

On the evening of April 30, that of the murder, Alex has no memory of anything, except that his father attacked his mother with threats and insults. “I have no memories of those moments. I was completely in shock ».
