Alexander Lukashenko invited Belarusian miners to start mining cryptocurrency

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has repeatedly spoken out on the issue of mining cryptocurrency in the country. In the context of new and rather tough EU and US sanctions, this may become one of the ways out for the economy, especially given the recently launched nuclear power plant. Once again, Lukashenka touched upon the topic of cryptocurrency during the opening of a mining and processing plant in Petrikov.

We have a lot of sites vacated here in Petrikov. I say to the governor – little money. Well, take it, put up greenhouses. Build something on electricity. Well, in the end, start mining cryptocurrency. Or whatever it’s called. There is enough electricity in the country.

It is interesting that the speech about the mining of cryptocurrency has come into the society of the most real miners – those who in the mines (Petrikovsky GOK is a part of JSC “Belaruskali”) extract potash salt, from which potash fertilizers are then produced. Recently, sanctions have been introduced against Belaruskali, which, in fact, prohibit the export of the company’s products. Therefore, it is possible that soon the miners of the enterprise will really have to change the real mining underground to virtual, land-based.
