O CNN Specialist in economics Alexandre Schwartsman said, this Thursday (30), that the drop in the unemployment rate to 9.8% in the quarter ended in May indicates a “glass half full” in the economic outlook, but that income is still a problem .
“In general, there is a job market that continues to recover, but the side of the glass half empty is the income side, which has had a worsening in wages”, evaluated Alexandre Schwartsman.
Data released this Thursday by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) indicate that the unemployment rate in Brazil stood at 9.8% in the quarter ended in May, setting the lowest rate for the period since 2015.
The IBGE, however, also pointed out that there was a drop in real income, to R$ 2,613 in the quarter ended in May. Compared to the same period in 2021, there was a 7.2% decrease in income.
For Schwartsman, “income is still in debt, but employment has been recovering quite vigorously”. “For the first time, we see the number of formal jobs surpass the pre-crisis level”, pointed out the CNN Specialist .
