Alfonso Herrera talks about RBD exploration and explains absence on tour

alfonso Herrera is one of the most respected and successful Mexican actors in the country and, for many years, his trajectory was marked by the telenovela “Rebel” and the group RBD both products of the broadcaster Televisa.

Promoting the film “¡Que Viva Mexico!” for the newspaper El País, Herrera spoke about the contractual abuses and other exploitations that she suffered alongside colleagues Anahí, Christian Chávez, Christopher Uckermann, Dulce Maria and Maite Perroni.

Asked about the decision not to participate in the group’s comeback tour, which celebrates 20 years in a series of shows in several countries, Poncho (as he is also known), reinforced that he is happy with the current projects and that his energy is directed towards they. “I know that [a turnê “Soy Rebelde”] it will be a huge success and I wish them nothing but good things for all of them,” he said.

“It was difficult because we signed a contract assigning the rights to the soap opera characters, their image and everything that was explored in terms of merchandising. We haven’t seen a single penny”, he revealed to the newspaper about Televisa.

“I was 23 or 24 years old and I saw the faces of my colleagues everywhere selling cookies, chewing gum, juices, notebooks, sneakers, pencils and nothing… The television channel that owned this project [Televisa] it wasn’t fair and it’s not a matter of money, it has to do with the issue of work. We did a show at the Coliseo de Los Angeles with 63,000 people, for example, and they paid me 18,000 pesos for it.”

Currently, Alfonso Herrera maintains a relationship with some people at the station, even though he is against the way in which Televisa handled the rights of the telenovela and the group, “because entertainment is like that”. In the interview, he also revealed that he loves and respects his colleagues who have decided to return with RBD.

“We share things that no one knows and the six of us were there in happy times and in difficult times, like in Brazil [quando três pessoas morreram pisoteadas em uma sessão de autógrafos, em 2007].

“To this day I’m a little scared when I go to a place where there are a lot of people,” he said. “We were alone and we supported each other because we didn’t have the psychological support to deal with this situation. It was very difficult. Years later we returned to Brazil, we found relatives and I met the father of one of the girls who lost her life. That event marked me in a very deep way and, as much as I try to get over it, it is still there”.

Finally, Alfonso Herrera said that the only thing that interests him at the moment is working “on things that move me, that excite me and that challenge me like ‘¡Que viva México!’”.
