Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba announced that on October 8, the platform will be banned from selling cryptocurrency mining products, including ASIC miners.
The company said in a statement that the changes to the site’s rules are related to the recent tightening of bans on the use of cryptocurrencies in the country. Earlier, two large Chinese mining pools announced the termination of services for Chinese miners, and Sparkpool announced a complete suspension of activities.
“After carefully considering and weighing options, Alibaba.com is banning the sale of miners in addition to selling the virtual currencies themselves on the platform. The ban applies to equipment and software for mining cryptocurrencies, for example, bitcoin miners. Also, guides and software for obtaining information about Bitcoin mining are prohibited. The product categories “Blockchain Miner Accessories” and “Blockchain Miners” will be closed, users need to delete the corresponding products, ”the company said in a statement.
Earlier, US Senator Pat Toomey said that the recent tightening of bans on the use of cryptocurrencies for business in China gives the US a chance to close the gap in this area.
