Alicia Silverstone, again as Cher Horowitz for Rodarte

It’s been almost 26 years since the release of Clueless in the United States, one of the most pop and iconic cinematic products of the 90s: unveiled a few months later in Italy, in early 1996, and better known as Girls in Beverly Hills, the film had a huge influence in the fashion of the time, continuing to exert a certain charm even in the following decades. It is no coincidence that i tartan suits in vitaminic colors, or the hyper-structured jackets and mini bags chosen by costume designer Mona May have continued to be successful on and off the catwalks, thanks also – and above all – to those who wore them.

One above all, the undisputed queen of the film, Alicia Silverstone, who has just appeared in a new, special project in which she again embodies the character played in the film.

It unmistakable style of Cher Horowitz is one of the most recurring fashion inspirations of recent times – and Harry Styles’ latest look at the Grammy Awards is proof of this – and has also become the main suggestion of the new Fall / Winter 2021 campaign by Roll you, of which Alicia Silverstone is the exclusive protagonist. Resuming the adorable Beverly Hills snob attitude which has conquered generations, the actress was immortalized by photographer Todd Cole on a California beach, with a series of looks that perfectly reflect her , I the second of the year ’90: from the green cardigan in cropped sequins with maxi pearl-shaped buttons, to the pink dress that incorporates the details, with black hems in evidence, to the floral dress paired with a teddy jacket with maxi patches, the garments are rhythmic from bright colors and bright prints, accessorized by maximalist oversized jewels.

This isn’t the first time Rodarte founders Laura and Kate Mulleavy make a cult film the star of one of their fashion campaigns: in 2019, the Los Angeles-based brand was inspired by Bring It On of 2000, bringing together on the set the cheerleaders – one nemesis of the other – played by Kirsten Dunst and Gabrielle Union. This time, the muse of the new fashion collection is the 44-year-old actress, who still carries on today the style heritage of his Cher, happy to get involved again with a 100% feminine brand and in line with its values: “I am very interested in sustainable clothing” she told Vogue US “Compassionate choices that do not hurt animals or the earth when doing things beautiful”. Ironic and not very discreet “Cher” statement looks yes, but with an eye to the planet. All the images of the Rodarte campaign with Alicia Silverstone in the gallery.
