“Alien”: in what order should I watch the films in the franchise?

The “Alien” saga gains a new chapter this Thursday (15) with the release of the film “Alien Romulus”. The film revisits a classic horror and science fiction franchise that began in 1979, the year in which “Alien, the Eighth Passenger “ reached the public.

“Alien: Romulus” is the ninth film released in a saga that has lasted more than 40 years. The new film is directed by Fede Álvarez (“Evil Dead”), and promises to be “independent” of the other productions. In the chronology of the story, it is set between “Alien” (1979) and “Aliens: The Rescue” (1986).

The story of “Alien” is not told in the order in which the films were released. The film that can be considered the first in the universe is “Alien vs. Predator”, released in 2004. “Alien – Resurrection”, from 1997, is the most “recent” in the chronology.

It is worth noting that two of the nine “Alien” films are a crossover with the “Predator” film series.

There are those who prefer to watch films in the order they were released, in order to see the “evolution” of the productions in terms of visual effects. There are, however, those who prefer to watch them in the “correct” order of the events in the story.
