All 14 passengers who disembarked in the Netherlands with Ômicron were vaccinated

All 14 passengers on the Nov. 26 flights from South Africa to the Netherlands, who were later diagnosed with the Ômicron variant of the coronavirus, were vaccinated, Dutch health officials said on Thursday (2).

A spokesman for the Dutch Institute of Health (RIVM) confirmed the 14’s vaccination status based on an investigation by the regional health authority that oversees Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport.

The Ômicron variant of the coronavirus was detected in the Netherlands in tests collected on 19 and 23 November, before South Africa reported the new strain to the World Health Organization (WHO) on 24 November.

The discovery puts a new entry date for the virus on Dutch territory, ahead of two flights that arrived from South Africa last week bringing the virus, Dutch health officials said on Tuesday (30).
