All because of the shortage of chips: Tesla cancels sales of its most expensive sedan

Tesla, a leading electric vehicle manufacturer, has ditched the Model S Plaid Plus, which was to be the most expensive sedan in its range. Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk announced this decision on his Twitter page.

According to Musk, further production of the Tesla Model S Plaid + is not necessary, since the Model S Plaid is already very good, because it can accelerate to 60 mph (about 96 km / h) in less than 2 seconds, which makes it the fastest serial electric car in history. But judging by Musk’s recent statement about supply problems, the company was forced to curtail production of the Plus-model of the electric sedan by a shortage of components, in particular, chips.

We will remind, initially Tesla estimated Model S Plaid + at about 140 thousand dollars, but in March raised the price to 150 thousand. For this amount, the electric sedan had a 1,100-horsepower electric motor and a battery with a power reserve of 840 km. The maximum speed that he could develop reached 320 km / h.

Note that it is not the first time that Elon Musk has said that his company is facing supply problems. At the April meeting, he stated that the first quarter of 2021 was the most difficult in Tesla’s history due to chip supply disruptions. But it must be said that Tesla is not the only automaker negatively affected by the semiconductor industry crisis. Other auto giants are also experiencing component shortages, including Ford and Jaguar Land Rover, which were forced to temporarily suspend production.
