All Mini cars will be fully electric by 2030

Another automaker has pledged to fully switch to electric vehicles within the next ten years. We are talking about the Mini brand owned by the BMW concern, under which popular small cars are produced.

According to the German weekly Der Spiegel, citing its own sources, by 2030 the Mini brand plans to fully focus on the production of electric vehicles, moving away from the usual cars with internal combustion engines. Mini will be the first BMW-owned brand to ditch all gasoline and diesel vehicles in favor of green electric vehicles. The brand is going to present its last new internal combustion engine in 2025.

It is worth noting that there is now only one fully electric vehicle in the Mini range. This is Mini Cooper SE, aka Mini Electric. But in 2023, it will be joined by an electric version of the Mini Countryman. Also under development are two more crossovers of the brand with an electric motor inside. The truth of what these models will be is still a mystery.

By the way, converting the entire Mini lineup to electricity is not the most ambitious goal in the car market. The fact is that Mini is a highly specialized brand that produces a small number of cars and they are all focused primarily on the city, and not on off-road and long trips. Therefore, fully electrifying the lineup will not take much time and will not be difficult, and autonomy will not become such a problem as for cars of other brands.

Over the past couple of months, in addition to Mini, several other automakers have announced plans to phase out petrol cars. For example, Jaguar has pledged to fully switch to electric vehicles by 2025, and Ford and General Motors by 2030. As for BMW itself, it has not yet announced such plans.
