The long-awaited melodrama disguised as a romance starring Oscar-nominated actors Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh titled “All the Time We Have” hits Brazilian cinemas this Thursday (31).

The production reflects on death, choices and renunciations in a narrative that presents the love story – in a non-linear way – of Almunt and Tobias. While telling how the couple met, fell in love and formed a family, the protagonist is diagnosed with cancer and must decide whether to undergo treatment, which could guarantee her longer life.

Throughout the plot, the production seeks to give a different perspective from the conventional to loss and mourning as the protagonist questions the legacy she wants to leave in the world and for her daughter, and her husband struggles to overcome his anger and misunderstanding.

Although the film seeks to show the impact that the news has on Almunt’s life, showing all the feelings and reflections that come with the diagnosis, with this issue as the central point of the plot, the production tries to develop the couple’s relationship and the characters’ particularities. .

The narrative jumps between the day they met, the diagnosis of the disease, the beginning of their relationship, the pregnancy, while showing good and bad days for Almunt and Tobais. Although it may seem confusing to follow the timeline, it is possible to distinguish the phase based on the changes in appearance of the protagonists and characters involved in the situations.

For Florence, the plot had a great impact on her personal life, and she said that the film should give the public a reality check.

“[O filme] It really led me to discover everything I wanted to change in my life (…). It was very wonderful, but a scary feeling of having the weight of the plot also affect my personal life. I think a lot of people watching the film feel very excited and desperate to talk to us about this feeling of, I suppose, having their lives shaken up a little bit,” he said in an interview with CNN .

THE CNN Garfield stated he and Pugh wanted to get deeply into the characters, and, by working together, they were able to “unlock” things in each other that weren’t there before.

“Florence always says that we were both willing to work in a very similar way to each other, in terms of it being very complementary to each other. We both wanted to travel deeply with these characters, to really go there and discover the deeper things about who these people are,” he said.

“It was like finding a dance partner or a tennis partner who was just as flexible, if not more so, and so passionate and intense and full of emotion that you really let these characters live. Working with Florence I went places I would never have gone with a different actor,” he said.
