British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will formally announce the country’s new plan this week for a full transition to renewable energy by 2035.

All UK electricity will be green by 2035

By this date, all electricity in the country should come from renewable sources, and nuclear energy will also be included. Currently, almost 40% of the country’s electricity is produced by burning natural gas.

The new target will require significant growth in not only offshore wind power, but also nuclear capacity to provide a “baseload” of electricity to cope with fluctuating supply and demand. This will mean a minimum fourfold increase in electricity production from wind farms compared to current levels over the next decade.

At the same time, the Prime Minister’s speech on green energy will be delivered against the backdrop of a growing energy crisis in the country, caused by both an impressive rise in gas prices and a shortage of about 100,000 drivers to transport gasoline around the country. The government believes that a significant increase in investment in renewables will help the UK avoid similar situations in the future.
