Alleged Thai abuser was in court on drug possession charges

The alleged attacker who killed at least 36 people, including 24 children, in Thursday’s massacre at a day care center in northeast Thailand was in court before the drug possession attack.

In an order issued on June 17, Thai royal police said the alleged assailant, Panya Kamrab, had been suspended from police service on January 20 after “having been accused of committing a serious disciplinary violation”.

The investigation into Kamrab found that he had been prosecuted on a charge of illegal possession of drugs.

Thai royal police also said he later admitted to using the drugs yaba and ICE (methamphetamine).

In an undated search of his home, police found a yaba tablet in his home.

Yaba is a combination of methamphetamine and caffeine, which is a commonly crushed and smoked tablet. It is known in Thailand as “mad medicine”.

He was later charged with possession of a category 1 drug (yaba or methamphetamine).

Kamrab is expected to receive a verdict on Friday, Thai royal police said after the attack.
