One in 10 adults has diabetes in the world, but nearly half are undiagnosed, according to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF). In South and Central America alone, there are 32 million adults with the disease, which could reach 49 million in 2045.
During the month dedicated to raising awareness about Diabetes, Blue November, endocrinologists and ophthalmologists, among other health professionals, such as nurses, nutritionists, dentists, psychologists, pharmacists, physiotherapists and physical education professionals, will offer services such as blood glucose tests and free counseling about the disease in the city of São Paulo.
The initiative, which takes place between the 21st and 26th of November, in the city of São Paulo, is part of the 25th edition of the National Free Diabetes Campaign. The action organized by the National Association for Diabetes Care (ANAD) aims to raise public awareness of the risks of the disease.
For those who have already received a diagnosis or present a suspicious result, it will be possible to carry out examinations to evaluate the eyes, feet and mouth, blood pressure measurement, nutritional evaluation, cholesterol test, glycated hemoglobin and microalbuminuria, vascular evaluation and Covid-19 test. The event takes place from 9 am to 4 pm at the ANAD headquarters, at Rua Eça de Queiroz, 198, Vila Mariana.
“This is yet another citizenship action that will help control diabetes and prevent its terrible complications”, highlights endocrinologist Fadlo Fraige Filho, president of ANAD.
The event will take place from 9am to 4pm and no booking is required. The campaign is supported by Servier Brasil’s Semper Cuidando patient care program.
“It is essential that we work towards this awareness of risk factors, how we can prevent the development of diabetes and its complications, how to monitor and treat the disease and the relevance of the multidisciplinary team in the treatment and follow-up”, highlights Renata Lima, medical manager at Server from Brazil.
