Almost mom Ashley Graham celebrates stretch marks on her baby bump and teaches us a lesson in self love

“Justin said my stretch marks look like the tree of life”. With these words the American model Ashley Graham, 34, accompanied the Instagram photo in which the great protagonist is her baby bump. Expecting two twins, after giving birth to little Isaac in January 2020, the supermodel and spokesperson of the Body Positivity movement exposes her stretch marks, a sign of an abdomen that has stretched properly, to host and make two wonderful little creatures grow. And Justin is Ashley Graham’s husband. Apparently, a man in love and evolved, certainly not frightened by the sight of some reddish streaks on the abdomen of his partner.

Stretch marks, scars and wrinkles: it all speaks of our history

Ashley Graham is not her first time with truthful photographs of the body in maternity: she had already shown the world the stretch marks that appeared during her first pregnancy and even before becoming pregnant she had shared typically female imperfections with her followers, such as skin on the mattress and stretch marks on the breast. Without taboos, with a smile, normalizing these “marks” on the skin. In recent times, another star of the network, ours Valentina Ferragni, wanted to publish close-up photos of the scar on his forehead today, the result of an operation which has successfully eradicated a skin tumor. And what about Hollywood actresses who are no longer very young, see the entry Helen Mirren, Andie Macdowell e Jane Fonda, serene in showing the wrinkles of the face, demonstration of an existence lived fully? As the psychologist and psychoanalyst Elena Benvenuti, «We hear so much about compassion, but we forget that this high and deep feeling of love and acceptance should primarily be addressed to ourselves, to our physical appearance, to our person. In addition to self love, a calm and reasonable attitude must also be adopted about what are the signs of aging, scars, stretch marks. Everything that is described to us as “imperfect” and which instead is something absolutely natural and organic. We avoid harsh criticism and to always compare ourselves with others, especially if the others are unapproachable celebrities. Which, beware, does not in any way mean neglecting or resigning oneself. We are looking for treatments, methods and experts that enhance our natural beauty, without upsetting and without having to delete any presumed: it is an inversion of thought that can radically change the relationship with our body and with our skin ».
