Reconciling sport and family. How? First of all the choice of the hotel, indeed of the family hotel, is critical. With two small children (in our case, a 1 year old and a 5 year old) I discovered that a family hotel is a safe haven for mum and dad, which allows you to take a breather. And in South Tyrol there are many structures with proposals and services designed specifically to entertain the whole family, with an eye for young guests. From child-friendly equipment, inserted according to the criteria of the German Children’s Association TÃœV NORD – from cots to strollers, from bathtubs to bottle warmers – to the innovative Familix Nature Program which includes entertainment and babysitting service.
The choice for our relaxing weekend (of mum and dad of course) fell onAlpe di Siusi, the largest mountain pasture in Europe, a ski area nestled between the Dolomite massif of the Sciliar, Sassolungo and Sassopiatto. To be precise a Siusi allo Sciliar at the Bad Ratzes hotel, at the foot of the Alpe di Siusi at 1,200 meters above sea level and 3 km from the village. The particularity of the hotel is that it is located on a large meadow overlooking the Sciliar, surrounded by a centuries-old forest of fir trees, crystallized in a postcard view. The hotel is the only constraint at the bottom of a small valley and if you are looking for contact with nature, here you will find what you are looking for.
A suggestive view of the Hotel Bad Ratzes
Helmuth RierIn addition to the beautiful location and the convenience of having the cable car to the Alpe di Siusi 10 minutes away (with a free shuttle service), there’s more than one reason to stay at Ratzes if you have young children. The main one is the assistance of children and babies (from 6 months), the dedicated menu, the babysitting service even in the evening in the play rooms (which leaves the possibility to mum and dad to dine alone for an hour) and a creative entertainment program for children and teenagers from afternoon to evening, in addition to the indoor pool. There is also an adventure park outside. It is difficult for older children to get bored, including torchlight processions, excursions, creative workshops and workshop (they organize climbing, parkour, circus, theater workshops, etc.). And while the children are having fun, mum and dad can relax in the wellness center or take a walk around the hotel. You are spoiled for choice.
Having fun with the snow on the Alpe di Siusi
The Alpe di Siusi is perfect for skiing holidays with the family, being one of the most suitable ski areas in South Tyrol for children. On the plateau the ski slopes are served by 19 ski lifts and are on average easy (with a couple of black ones) suitable for the whole family. If you need a helping hand for your children’s lessons, you can count on two ski schools where chicks can learn to ski by playing, thanks to courses suitable for all ages, ski kindergartens and childcare.
The ski tour of the witches
Also known as Ronda Alpe di Siusi, it is accessible by the Siusi-Alpe di Siusi cable car and has seven stations along the ski slopes, passing through the Alpe di Siusi Snowpark. Avoiding the pro lines of freestylers, there are a couple of easy lines, the Family and the Easy line. Then there is also the fun park Witch Nix for children and the selftimer and speedtrap systems, equipped with wooden columns that tell of witches and wizards.
