AM MP investigates alleged risk of bridge collapse over Rio Negro

The Public Prosecution Service of the State of Amazonas investigates the alleged risk of collapse of the Rio Negro Bridge due to an erosive process in the foundations of the structure. The civil inquiry was a request from the 63rd Prosecutor of Justice Specialized in the Protection and Defense of the Urban Order (PRORB).

The bridge was built in 2007 to connect the municipalities of Manaus and Iranduba. The structure also serves as a connection to other municipalities further from the Amazonian capital.

The work cost, according to the Amazonas Commercial Association, about R $ 1.099 billion (R $ 586 million in BNDES funding and R $ 513 million from the Amazonas State Government).

In a position sent to the MP, the State Government says there are no risks to the bridge structure. It also states that the affected area will go through a recomposition process.

For prosecutor Paulo Stélio Sabbá Guimarães, author of the investigation request, the goal is to know the real situation of the bridge and “ensure that drivers, bikers, cyclists and pedestrians can be sure that the bridge does not risk, which is in perfect condition of traffic.”

The ProurB asked the State Secretariat of Urban and Metropolitan Development the schedule of the recovery services of the erosion impacted by the erosion and, in case of completion of the services, the remittance of supporting photographic records of the respective ground recomposition.

THE CNN He sought the government of Amazonas and awaits return.
