The Amazonas Civil Police, in a joint operation with the Military Police, disrupted an interstate drug trafficking scheme on Thursday (10), resulting in the arrest of Matheus Luiz Melo de Oliveira Cunha, 26, and the seizure of 280 pounds of drugs, more than 10 cars, a motorcycle and a truck. THE Estimated loss to organized crime is R $ 10 million .
Operation
The action, carried out by the Narcotics Research Department (Denarc) with the support of the Metropolitan Policing Command (CPM), is considered a strong blow against drug trafficking in the state of Amazonas.
The Secretary of Public Security (SSP-AM), Colonel Vinícius Almeida, highlighted the performance of security forces and the state’s investment in the fight against crime. “This year alone, there are approximately 12 tons of seized drugs. With all state investment in maintaining public safety, today Amazonas is a reference,” said Colonel Almeida.
Investigation
The investigations, which began in February, revealed that the criminal group used a façade dealership to launder money and transport drugs to other states. Amazonian Civil Police Deputy General Bruno Fraga stressed the importance of reaching the financial structure of criminal organizations.
“This dynamic of money washing through false dealers or vehicle dealers was already being studied by the Narcotics Department. This time, there were 10 cars seized, as well as a motorcycle and a truck, an important thud of bringing drugs from the triple border region and draining to other states,” said Fraga.
Seized material
At the dealership, located in the Flores neighborhood, south-central Manaus, 240 pounds of skunk marijuana, 40 kilos of cocaine and the 12 vehicles were seized. According to delegate Rodrigo Torres, director of Denarc, the cars would be used for interstate drug transport, bound for the cities of Santarém (PA) and Fortaleza (CE).
“The vehicles are even deteriorated inside and would again supply the drug trade outside the Amazonas. Part of the narcotics would land in Santarém and the other party in Fortaleza,” said Torres.
