Amazon founder will go into space on his own ship

Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon and one of the richest people on the planet, today, June 7, officially announced that he will be part of the crew of the Blue Origin company, which he also created, on the first manned space flight. Together with the billionaire, his brother Mark Bezos will also board, which is a vivid demonstration of the Amazon creator’s confidence in the reliability of his company’s spacecraft. And, most interestingly, if the event really takes place, then Jeff Bezos will become the first person to go into space on a ship that was created by his own company.

At the moment, the New Shepard ship is scheduled to launch on July 20, 2021 – the date may be postponed due to bad weather conditions, but the creators of the project probably chose the date for a reason. In addition, there are six seats on board the ship, which, of course, will all be occupied – two “tickets” were booked by Jeff Bezos and his younger brother, the third place is now being played at an open auction. So far, the cost of a ticket to space reaches $ 2.8 million, but this is probably not the final price – after the announcement that Bezos himself is flying on this ship, the stakes may rise.

The other three places, according to insiders, will be provided by three significant employees of Blue Origin or Amazon, but their identities are still secret. However, this launch can be called a flight into space only with a stretch – the ship will cross the Karman line (100 kilometers above sea level), which is the conditional boundary between the Earth’s atmosphere and space, and the duration of the entire flight, from the moment of launch to the deployment of parachutes, will be only 10 minutes. That is, technically, this is indeed a flight into space, but this does not come close to comparing with the travels of real astronauts.
