Amazon Prime Day October 2023: how to recognize a fake review

The countdown to Prime Day October 2023 has officially begun. The event, this time, will be called Prime Offers Festival and, on the occasion of 10 and 11 Octoberwill bring new discounts dedicated to those who have subscribed to the Prime service, including the Student version.

From tech to sport, through beauty to the best-selling products thanks to the virality of TikTok and beyond: there will be many product categories covered but, in order not to make a mistake in purchasing, it is good to know and recognize a potential fake review.

For some time now, Amazon has been active in intercepting false reviews, usually written in exchange for products, money, vouchers or other benefits. Often active on Telegramthese groups are totally outlawed and outside the rules of Amazon and the platforms where these people interact, obviously.

But how do you recognize a fake review on Amazon? There are several elements to keep in mind. The tone, the length, the number of reviews published by the reviewer and the time frame in which he produced them, the language he used and some others. Let’s see them one by one.

Length and tone

Usually theextreme brevity argues in favor of falsehood because the goal is to influence the overall score represented by the stars. It is also essential to understand if it is useful to us, that is, what we are talking about: when a judgment remains too vague, without alluding to specific elements of the product analyzed, it is probably fake or at best orchestrated.

Language

A excessively celebratory vocabulary, full of hyperbole or in any case marked by a lack of balance of judgment is another sign of falsehood, or in any case of positive prejudice towards that product. The same goes for identifying equally instrumental negative reviews: that product will have nothing that can save it and the vocabulary used it will be excessively heavy.

Check the reviewer: which and how many reviews and in how long

This applies to all platforms, at least those that allow it. By clicking on «View all my reviews» next to the user’s name it will be possible to understand if and what other reviews he has left and what those he has possibly published are like. It will be a piece of cake to realize if it is an unfaithful user who publishes rubbish. Having published too many in a short time is also another indication of the scam danger.

Verify your purchase

How do you review what you didn’t buy? You could have bought it elsewhere. Right. However, look for the orange writing «verified purchase» under the stars and the user’s name guarantees us that he really received the item. As we have seen above, not even that step constitutes an absolute guarantee of truthfulness but it nevertheless increases the degree of difficulty required of those who orchestrate fake campaigns.

How to react to a fake review

First of all you can, with one click, report a review it was really useful to us. Secondly, if we smell something fake, we can report that content with the command «Report abuse» located above the Yes/No button next to the question «Was this review helpful to you?».
