The Amazonas Health Department (SES-AM) reported that at least 49 cases of rhabdomyolysis – popularly known as “black urine disease” – had been confirmed in the state until last Monday (25).
The cases were registered in the cities of Itacoatiara (36), Manaus (7), Parintins (2) and Nova Olinda do Norte (1). There are no deaths related to the disease, according to local authorities, who are investigating another 13 suspected cases.
According to the Amazonas Health Surveillance Foundation, rhabdomyolysis is a syndrome that can occur due to various conditions, such as trauma , excessive physical activity It is infections or even due to the alcohol consumption and others drugs .
When associated with fish consumption, the syndrome is called Haff’s disease . The most common symptoms include myalgia, malaise, nausea, muscle weakness, abdominal pain, vomiting and dark urine.
