Amazonas court makes three defendants involved in the deaths of Bruno Pereira and Dom Phillips

The Federal Justice of Amazonas received a complaint from the Federal Public Ministry against Amarildo da Costa Oliveira, Oseney da Costa de Oliveira, and Jefferson da Silva Lima. The three will answer for double aggravated homicide and concealment of a corpse for the murders of indigenist Bruno Pereira and British journalist Dom Phillips.

In the document, the MPF explains that Amarildo and Jefferson confessed to the crime, while Oseney’s participation was proven by witness statements. The complaint also brings prints of conversations and cites the results of expert reports, with the analysis of bodies and objects found.

According to the agency, there were already records of disagreements between Bruno and Amarildo on account of illegal fishing in indigenous territory. What motivated the murders would have been the fact that Bruno had asked Dom to photograph the boat of the accused, which is classified by the MPF as a futile motive and can increase the sentence.

The crime took place on June 5th in Vale do Javari (AM). Bruno was killed with three shots, one of them in the back, without any possibility of defense, which also qualifies the crime. Dom was murdered just for being with Bruno, in order to ensure impunity for the previous crime.

The family of Dom Phillips manifested itself this Friday (22) about the complaint offered by the MPF.

In a note, the family’s lawyer Rafael Borges says that “It still seems early for a definitive assessment. The investigation and the indictment produced from it must encompass both executors and principals. We are following the process as assistants to the prosecution and we intend to act so that all those responsible for Dom’s death are punished according to the law.”

The Federal Police in Amazonas confirmed that the arrested suspects, Jeferson da Silva Lima and Oseney da Costa de Oliveira, will be transferred to the capital this Saturday (23/07). The others involved in the case, Amarildo da Costa de Oliveira and Rubens Vilar Coelho, known as Colombia, have been in Manaus since July 9 and remain in custody at the Regional Superintendence of the Federal Police.
