There were 3,435 cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) recorded between January 1 and August 31 in Amazonas. The data comes from the state’s Health Surveillance Foundation, linked to the Amazonas State Health Department (SES-AM).
Of these 3,435 reported cases of SARS, 1,490 were caused by respiratory viruses. This number represents a 4% drop compared to the same period in 2023, when 1,548 were reported.
The months of January and April showed the highest increases in 2024 compared to 2023, with increases of 109 and 148%, respectively, in the percentage of SARS. February and August represented the largest drops, with 78 and 38% drops in notifications.
As of August 31, 44 deaths from respiratory viruses have been recorded this year in Amazonas.
To prevent SARS, the recommendation is to adopt non-pharmacological measures, such as the use of respiratory protection masks, keeping hands clean, respiratory etiquette and vaccination against COVID-19 and influenza.
Vaccination in Manaus
The capital of Amazonas began its influenza (flu) vaccination campaign this Monday (2). The vaccines will be administered in 161 vaccination rooms managed by the Municipal Health Department (Semsa). See available vaccination locations and times.
It is necessary to present an official identification document, CPF or National Health Card (CNS) and proof of inclusion in the priority group, to receive the vaccine. Find out which ones they are:
- Children aged six months to five years, 11 months and 29 days
- Pregnant women
- Postpartum women
- Indigenous peoples
- Elderly people aged 60 and over
- Priority groups recommended by the Ministry of Health
