Amazonas recorded 7,254 cases of cyber crimes across the state, between January and August 2024. The numbers are part of the Criminal Indicators Panel, from the Public Security Secretariat (SSP).
The numbers for the first eight months of the year represent an increase of 53.9% compared to the same period in 2023. Last year, 4,712 were registered, between January and August.
The numbers up to August this year are almost equivalent to all records made in 2023. Between January and December last year, SSP-AM counted 7,751. This means that if the state continues with an average of more than 906 cybercrimes per month, in 2024, growth could reach 130%, compared to data from the previous year.
Fraud and hackers lead complaints
Among the crimes highlighted in the SSP-AM data panel, the crimes of embezzlement, hacking of a computer device, threats and false identity stand out. The first two are among the most common crimes in the state, leading the records, both in 2023 and 2024. All types of crime show an increase in occurrences between the periods compared.
The panel reveals that fraud crimes grew 57.4% in 2024. Last year, there were 2,358 records. In 2024 there were 3,713, between January and August.
Hacker attacks due to computer device invasion also showed a slight increase of 12.4%. Data from 2023 shows 1,119 occurrences, compared to 1,258 in 2024.
The crime of threat and misrepresentation registered growth of 57.8% and 20.7%, respectively. Threat records in 2023 show 557 occurrences, compared to 879 in the period of 2024. Between January and August, misrepresentation went from 553 to 668 cases.
