O Amazon Institute+21, an initiative by the CNI, in conjunction with the state industry federations in the nine Amazon states, will be presented to an audience of Arab investors in the afternoon.
Completely within the ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) practices, in Portuguese: Environmental, Social and Governance, the Institution offered business models based on sustainability and social responsibility.
Open to all productive segments, from services to agribusiness, it promoted sustainable businesses with technological and innovative solutions suited to the Amazon biome, connecting large companies and investors with ESG credit lines to local companies – large, medium and small – and sustainable ventures already installed in the Amazon, involving its production chains, communities and traditional populations.
The concern with a sustainable economy has unfolded into biogas production projects, monetization of forest assets and recovery of degraded areas.
“The Amazon+21 Institute proposal is a business agenda focused on promoting innovative high-impact businesses guided by the ESG principles. It is a reaffirmation of the Brazilian industry’s commitment that the Amazon deserves to be respected and needs a new look. It is not a look of guardianship, but a look of opportunities”, said the President of the Council for the Environment and Sustainability of CNI and the Instituto Amazônia+21, Marcelo Thomé.
On the date, the president of CNI, Robson Braga de Andrade, also gave a presentation on the industry’s initiatives for sustainability and best practices in the transition to a low-carbon economy, based on four pillars: energy transition, carbon pricing, circular economy and forest conservation.
Brazil has made firm commitments to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases and has the potential to become a protagonist in the green economy. The country has the cleanest energy matrix in the world, high production of biofuels and detailed and rigorous environmental legislation.
