Ambarella announced the expansion of its single chip portfolio with the CV5S and CV52S families. New SoCs based on CVflow architecture, designed for release on 5nm technology, are intended for video surveillance systems. They support simultaneous encoding of signals from multiple 4K cameras and advanced AI processing with low power consumption.

The CV5S family is ideal for multi-camera surveillance systems for circular coverage, large areas and long range such as urban outdoor environments or large buildings. The CV52S family is designed for CCTV cameras with advanced AI performance that need to more clearly identify people or objects, including faces and license plates, over long distances, such as traffic monitoring cameras.
The advantages of SoC CV5S include the ability to simultaneously process and encode four channels with a resolution of up to 8 megapixels or 4K, each at a speed of 30 fps, while simultaneously performing processing on each of them using AI algorithms. These SoCs double the encoding resolution and memory bandwidth while consuming 30% less power than the previous generation of Ambarella.
CV52S single-chip systems support 4K @ 60 fps, while delivering four times the performance of AI computer vision, twice the processor performance and 50% more memory bandwidth than their predecessors.
CV5S and CV52S configurations include dual-core Arm Cortex-A76 CPUs, improved image processor with HDR and distortion correction support, built-in privacy masking, PCIe and USB 3.2 interfaces, cybersecurity mechanisms such as Secure Boot, OTP and Arm TrustZone. Single-chip systems work with LPDDR4x, LPDDR5 and LPDDR5x memory. The maximum number of connected cameras is up to 14 (using MIPI virtual channels).
The CV5S and CV52S SoCs are expected to be available for testing in October.
