Amber Heard Testifies Against Johnny Depp: “Nothing I Did Stopped Him From Beating Me”

Amber Heard testified for a second day on Thursday in her defense against a $50 million defamation charge filed by her ex-husband, Johnny Depp .

The actress testified about Depp’s alleged physical abuse, which she says resulted in aggression between the couple.

“Nothing I did made him stop hitting me. Anything. I tried for over a year, maybe two, just not responding physically, not responding verbally, just looking at him, I tried to freeze, I tried to go to a different place. I then tried to attack verbally. Threaten that if he hit me again, I would call the police.”

Depp is suing Amber Heard over a 2018 op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post, in which she described herself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse.” Although Depp was not named in the article, he claims it cost him lucrative acting roles.

Heard and Depp, who met in 2009, were married from 2015 to 2016.

The actor testified over the course of several days and, in one of them, claimed that he had never hit a woman. He also accused Amber of verbal and physical abuse – he recounted in detail an incident that left his finger partially severed.

Both denied the allegations.

A fight over scenes with James Franco

Amber Heard testified on Thursday that in 2014, while filming with actor James Franco, Depp got angry at the romantic scenes between them in the film. He then threw objects at her and then kicked her in the back during a fight.

“I still feel that boot on my back. He kicked me in the back. I fell to the ground and caught myself. Nobody said anything, nobody did anything,” Heard testified. “I felt so ashamed that he could do that in front of people.”

She testified that shortly after the incident, Depp apologized for his behavior and later called in a medical team to help him detox from drugs.

“This is typical of the apologies I got when he took it too far physically,” she said, of Depp’s apology text message. “Sometimes I didn’t think he understood how much he could physically hurt me.”

Amber Heard testified that Depp asked her to come with him to his private island while he detoxed, a period she described as “hell”.

The actor also testified about the detox period at the start of the trial.

“There was a big part of me that was very uncomfortable with Ms. Heard, who went with me for this detox,” he said.

Before the court took a break for lunch, the actress said that the couple’s relationship began to deteriorate. “By this point in our relationship, we were both saying horrible things to each other. Yelling. Unfortunately, when Johnny started hitting me, he just won.”
