Amber Heard to testify soon in dispute with Johnny Depp for defamation

Amber Heard, ex-wife of Johnny Depp could testify later this Wednesday (4) before a jury in the US state of Virginia, which is hearing the defamation allegations that the actors have filed against each other after a brief marriage.

This Tuesday (3), Depp’s lawyers ended their arguments after saying that Amber slandered the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star when she claimed to have been a victim of domestic violence.

The actress’ side began by calling to testify a psychologist who said she suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder due to Depp’s physical and sexual abuse.

Depp, 58, is suing his ex-wife, 36, for $50 million. Amber filed a $100 million counter-suit, saying Depp defamed her by calling her a liar.

Over the course of four days of affidavit, Depp claimed that the “Aquaman” star was the aggressor in the relationship and once threw a bottle of vodka that cut the top of his right middle finger.

Amber denies hurting Depp’s finger and says she only threw things to escape when he was hitting her.

In her cross-examination, the actress’ lawyers presented text messages and audio recordings of Depp insulting Amber.

The case refers to a December 2018 op-ed in the Washington Post. The article never mentioned Depp by name, but his lawyer told jurors it was clear Amber was referring to him.

The couple’s divorce was finalized in 2017 after less than two years of marriage.
