Ambitious government plans: by 2030 they plan to greatly increase the popularity of domestic social networks

The Russian government expects that by 2030, Russian digital services will experience a period of rapid growth – for some projects, the audience will increase by tens of percent, while for certain services it will at least double. This was reported today, January 10, by the Izvestia news outlet, with reference to the New General System Software roadmap adopted by the government in mid-December 2022. If we believe the forecasts of the authors of this document, the volume of the audience of domestic platforms like social networks and instant messengers will increase to 120 million users by the end of the decade.

For example, analysts suggest that the audience of video hosting RuTube, owned by Gazprom-Media, should almost double by the end of 2030, to 48 million active users. At the moment, when compiling the document, the audience of the platform is estimated at 25 million users. At the same time, the forecasts of the Yappi short video service, which is part of the same holding, are more impressive – the project, if analysts are not mistaken, should increase its audience by 4.5 times to 18.5 million viewers. However, one project in the document has an even more attractive prognosis.

We are talking about the Wink online cinema from Rostelecom – analysts believe that the audience of the service by 2030 will grow nine times to 83 million users. This is a very ambitious forecast, because the largest online cinema in Russia, Ivy, currently has only 35 million users. Probably, the forecast of 83 million users is formed on the basis of plans for the development of the Wink online cinema itself – the developers promise to add cloud gaming, music streaming, various user-generated content and the ability to receive content for free by watching ads in the near future.
