AMD’s second-generation RDNA architecture (RDNA 2) has been generally praised by reviewers and users for the performance and energy efficiency improvements it has achieved despite using the same 7nm manufacturing process as RDNA.
AMD was the first to implement hardware-accelerated ray tracing (RT), but compared to Nvidia’s solution, the results were not very impressive. As reported by RedGamingTech, AMD RDNA 3 ray tracing performance will improve significantly and be very competitive compared to what Nvidia is offering.
The source adds that the RDNA 3 architecture will use a smart next-generation ray tracing engine that could even beat Nvidia’s performance. The architecture will also feature new machine learning instructions.
The AMD Navi 31, Navi 32 and Navi 33 GPUs are also reported to offer 2.8x, 2.2x, and 1.5x better performance than the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT, respectively.
It is currently unknown how exactly AMD could achieve such growth. Probably, we are talking about simultaneously increasing the number of cores and increasing the clock frequency.
