For the first time in 15 years, AMD has surpassed Intel’s share of the desktop processor market, according to PassMark Software. More precisely, the former takes 50.8%, while the latter retains 49.2%.

The last time AMD was ahead of Intel, according to the same source, was in early 2006, and even then the company was in the lead for only one quarter.
In the mobile segment, PassMark data indicate that AMD occupies 16.3%, and in the server segment it has only 1.4%, which is very interesting, because it turns out that for the desktop AMD indicators are greatly overestimated relative to the real ones, and for the rest, on the contrary , are underestimated.

Although in fact both AMD’s leadership in one segment and its underestimated performance in others are explained quite simply. The fact is that PassMark data is taken from a specific source: PerformanceTest results. Of course, it is desktop PC owners who test their CPUs more often than others, and besides, the test exists only for Windows. And AMD’s advantage is explained by the fact that now AMD processors are greatly improving every year, which forces their owners (and not only) to test such CPUs more often. In the case of Intel, unfortunately, there is no such reason.
Be that as it may, such statistics also have the right to exist, especially if they have been collected for so long. If we recall the latest more adequate data on this topic, then they can be found in our November news.
