AMD will continue to increase the number of cores in its CPUs, but does not seek to reveal the cards yet

The head of AMD Lisa Su (Lisa Su) in an interview with several sources told about the upcoming products of the company and plans for their development.

AMD will continue to increase the number of cores in its CPUs, but does not seek to reveal the cards yet

For example, according to her, now AMD is working on two architectures at once: Zen 4 and Zen 5. The first should appear at the core of processors at the end of this year, and the second – in 2022, although AMD may well shift the schedule a little.

When it comes to Zen 4, you can recall the words of Rick Bergman – Vice President of AMD – who previously stated that the list of improvements to this architecture for Zen 3 will be as long as in the case of the transition from Zen 2 to Zen 3.K In addition, AMD will switch to a new process technology, which will further increase performance and improve energy efficiency. True, the question regarding the number of cores in this case remained unanswered. Given the transition to 5nm standards, AMD could probably increase the number of cores in its CPUs, but it is not a fact that it will be advisable.

Lisa Su, speaking about the build-up of cores, said that this will definitely happen in the future, but only as the rest of the system scales.

There was also a question regarding Apple and its SoC M1, but here, of course, neither AMD nor Intel can answer anything intelligible, since this is a very difficult and complex question. But Lisa Su said that more specialized solutions can be expected in the next two years, which will allow for greater market differentiation. AMD itself is likely to follow this path as well.
